This article is long overdue, the fact is since I first watched a movie in 2003 with my kids called 'Elf' I have been a huge fan of comedian and actor Will Ferrell. Since then I have made it my ambition to watch all of his films.
Born in 1967 in Irvine California, Ferrell first began performing at university, a little after this he got involved in a number of improvisation groups including the Los Angeles one known as 'the Groundings'. From there Will went on to be a regular feature on the legendary 'Saturday Night Live' during the mid nineties. During this period he also appeared on a number of network TV shows such as 'Grace Under Fire' and 'Living Single'.
It was actually 2002 before Will began to pursue a film career, but in the last seven years he has quickly established himself starring in a number of memorable hits such as 'Semi-Pro' and 'Talladega Nights'.
So what is it about Wills movies that appeals to me so much?
I have to say I really love the child like persona he takes on. Basically he says and does things that spoilt little children would do and say. For example my favourite line from his 2008 hit movie 'Step Brothers' also starring John C Reilly (who seems to appear in a lot of movies with him) is when talking about his future stepfather he says to his mum, " I'm not going call him dad ever, even if there is a fire!'
I am sure in years to come that many of Wills movies will take on cult status in the same way as early Steve Martin and Chevy Chase films. In the meantime I am grateful for the opportunity to watch all his latest offerings including his latest action-adventure comedy 'Land of the Lost'.
